Overnight card lock issue

Update (Aug 23, 2025): After further review and a conversation with @BigChemist, we discovered the bug allowed pick changes across more fights than the last 4 we initially identified. As a result, The Game leaderboard for this card is compromised and the scores shown there cannot be fully trusted. Details and next steps below.

What happened

At 12:00 a.m. PT on Saturday, Aug 23, the UFC card started at an unusual time. A scheduling bug prevented some fights from locking correctly and delayed their official results from posting. Because those fights did not lock when they should have, some users could edit picks after those fights ended, which temporarily broke leaderboards.

What we fixed

  • Backfilled the official results for all fights
  • Recalculated leaderboards globally
  • Patched the lock & result scheduler for late-night/overnight cards

Audit findings (fair play)

What we originally believed to be limited to the last four fights was broader:

  • We found instances where users could change picks after the intended lock on additional fights.
  • This means the integrity of The Game leaderboard for this card is compromised.
  • We are continuing to review edit logs and timing data to identify and document the full impact.

Where things stand now

  • Badges, stats, and pool scoring for users who did not alter picks late are correct and will stand.
  • The Game (global) leaderboard for this specific card is not reliable.
  • Prizes: There was no cash prize for this card. To acknowledge the disruption and any potential misuse, we’re awarding a free chest to the Top 10 placements on The Game for this card.
  • Season impact: The overall yearly leaderboard may be slightly impacted by this card; however, current Top-10 season leaders appear not to have altered picks illegally (still under review).
